Clay Ford, founder of the
NET-CALL Institute, originator of the 'net communication method' and
Net-Terminology,
has a deep-rooted history with the topic.
In 2010, then a university student, Clay Ford was part of a project group developing a Skype-like solution for a big corporation. It was during this time that he envisioned a revolutionary approach: a technology enabling instant real-time audio-visual communication with website visitors. Captivated by the idea, Ford and his university peers began exploring it further, igniting a shared excitement for its possibilities.
Driven by this newfound passion, he dedicated his master's thesis to exploring this concept. In 2011, Clay Ford presented his thesis titled
"Chances of Revenue Increase in Online Sales Through Direct Audio-Visual Website Communication" at the Salzburg Management and Business School (SMBS). Despite being ahead of its time and without any existing software examples, his work received top honors. It insightfully discussed the potential impact of this technology on global economic growth.
Immersing himself in the topic yet again, Ford’s exploration led him to several software providers in this emerging field. Discussions with founders revealed that, while their software was very successful, there was no widespread adoption by companies.
Drawing parallels to "headless commerce" and "customer data platforms", which only blossomed into multi-billion-dollar markets after being named, Clay Ford identified the absence of a category name, definitions, and supporting terminology as the biggest hindrance to the software’s broader recognition.
Soon after, Ford committed to name, define, and advocate this new and innovative category.
In 2025, armed with a well-crafted terminology and a further deepened understanding, Clay Ford started sharing his concept with industry players and began advocating for this new category.
This marked the birth of
NET-CALL Institute, an entity dedicated to educating and promoting this groundbreaking new type of business activities and technology.
After his studies, Clay Ford's interest in the digital space drove him to work in agencies and startups, where he developed his understanding and expertise in topics such as online marketing, sales, and software technology consulting.
In December 2022, Ford discovered something that had not been in his direct field of vision for a while: He came across software that allowed instant video communication with unknown website visitors. The discovery was a thrilling affirmation of his long-held belief in the technology’s potential, confirming the vision he had nurtured since his university days over 10 years ago.
